Silent Installation Of Bartender 10 Pro
Good day,
I've been tasked with packaging BarTender 10 Professional into a silent install.
After reading the whitepaper on silent installs, I've discovered they don't seem to work properly (in my case).
Running from cmd line:
setup.exe /L"1033 /s /v"EDITION=P" /qb"
It installs successfully, in English, and silently.
When I go to Start > All Programs > BarTender 10.0, I have a large list of icons, including License Server, which should not be present with the Professional edition. When I launch BarTender for the first time, I am prompted to enter a key. I try to enter my Pro key, and am given an error:
An Automation Product Key must be entered.
Short of manually running the setup and selecting Professional, how can I set the MSI/MST to perform a 'Professional' installation, with prompting for license at first launch?
Thanks!
Dave
Edit: Specifically, I'd like to know which properties specify the Edition information

1. Are you using the latest v10 service release SR1?

2. I imagine that the License Server is getting installed, even though you specified the Professional edition, as this is now part of the same BarTender Suite installer. If you add the option REMOVE=LicenseServer explicitly then you should be sure that License Server doesn't get installed. Note that if License Server is installed, then when you come to activate BarTender it will attempt to activate License Server at the same time and hence generate the error.
3. It looks like we have an issue logged in our system already about the EDITION command option not working properly for silent installs. Therefore we might have a problem to fix for an upcoming service release. If this is the case, try using the REMOVE option instead to work around the issue.0 -

Hi Ian,
Thanks for the info, you confirmed what my testing uncovered, that the Edition flag wasn't behaving properly.
I added the "ADDLOCAL=BarTender,BatchMaker,PrintStation,Samples" option, which is the 4 specified modules that get installed when you manually select Professional.0
