Print Station requires the BarTender component in order to print, therefore the question is invalid.

In order to give someone print station and not be allowed to design labels you would need to turn on security center.  You can use user groups to define what they can and can't do within all of the BarTender applications.  security center is controlled locally on each computer.

I have no idea if this is available in all versions of BarTender

Security Center requires the Automation edition or above: http://www.seagullscientific.com/label-software/companion-application-overview.aspx

Thanks for pointing me in a possible direction.  Unfortunately, Security Center is only a partial solution because it is simply unreasonable to expect that users will not have Administrator permissions on their PCs when it comes to Windows.  So the best we can do is obfuscate the pieces of Bartender that we don't want users to employ, such as the designer GUI, by removing shortcuts and using passwords.  Two different Bartender programs would be better so that we could install a print-only environment without jumping through hoops.  There should be a designer module and a print-only module, e.g., a run-time program.  I'm sure plenty of customers would appreciate it.  It would simplify the whole implementation, especially for smaller companies that can't afford the Enterprise version.  I think the web server solution is the only real secure solution but who can come up with that kind of money?

I'm pretty sure the lower versions do have a print only version, which is cheaper than the designer license.

Note: As an alternative to getting a Print Only license, you can instead enable a print only password for BarTender via the "Administer>Print-Only Password Setup" menu item.

Is there a way to automate the password on multiple PCs?  It would be very difficult to touch each one individually.  The whole idea in a larger company is unworkable.

We just assumed Bartender was the premier solution for us but we might need to look elsewhere for someone that doesn't charge enormous sums for a modicum of centralized security.  Why there isn't a built-in print-only program is beyond my comprehension.  It's really a no-brainer.

    Thanks,

    Russell

Set the print only password option on one PC.  This will create the following hidden file: C:\ProgramData\Seagull\BarTender\Security.dat  Use a login script to deploy the same file to all other BarTender installations.
