Repeated Data Entry S’abonner

Apologies if this has been asked before but I had no success finding it.

I am using BarTender to replace a legacy labelling system that has a feature I am yet to work out how to mimic in BarTender without using a database or using the SDK.

The label media has 6 labels per row. The requirement is to provide a data entry form where it continues to prompt for values to be printed on a label (with optional copied ideally) until all entries have been entered. At this point the printing starts across the labels. So that if I asked for 5 single labels with different values only one row of label media would be used.

I have achieved this by entering the data into an Excel spreadsheet and linking it to the template but my user would prefer it all being done via the data entry screen rather than having to use 2 different applications to achieve what he can now in one.

*Edit*

I've found another, albeit contrived, way of doing it via a data entry form. I have added a serial number field on the label and hidden it so it's never printed. On the data entry form I now have three fields ...

1) Number of serial numbers required (Label reads number of items to enter)

2) Number of copies per item

3) Data Item

1 & 2 are set to be entered once per print job and 3 once per serial number.

This seems to work fine but seems a bit contrived way of doing it. I also have to train some people to create their own labels using this mechanism so looking for something that may be a bit easier/intuitive.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

I recon the later approach (serial number) is right (that's available from BarTender 2016) and cannot figure out better solution within BarTender only.

You could set your page setup to be the width of the all 6 labels and design it in such a way that the data fields printed on the correct areas.  So Bartender thinks that you are printing on one label, but you are actually printing on 6.

Thanks Shotaro for the confirmation that there is no straightforward "Repeat ... Until no data entered" way of doing things. Worth consideration for the future perhaps. Is there a formal way of submitting a feature suggestion?

Slickson - Thanks for the suggestion, it doesn't quite fit into this requirement but is something that will help me with one of my other labelling needs.

There's feature request subforum

http://forums.seagullscientific.com/index.php?/forum/146-feature-request/

However - actually, your current solution is newly available since BarTender 2016.

In previous versions, you didn't have option to show form on every serial number nor on every copy.

Thanks Shotaro - I agree that my current solution is available but I don't think it is intuitive and it also requires my user to have to count the number of items they want to enter before entering them.

Ideally what I would like would be an option to keep entering data until, say, a submit print button was pressed. This would remove the need for me to have an unused serial number on the label and be, IMHO, a far more intuitive way to build the label.

But in the meantime, the serial number solution meets my needs :)

Thanks for all the help guys (Y)
