Page Size/ Stock Size Setup Issue Zebra Epl Printers
I have 3 different Zebra EPL printers that all have the same oddity when printing from Bartender. Using non-continous gapped labels 0.08" from the left margin and bottom margin are unprintable areas.
Version Information:
BarTender Enterprise Automation version 10.0
Product: Zebra EPL Driver
Version: 7.3.3
Windows XP SP3, Win7 32-bit and 64-bit
Printers:
Zebra TLP2844
Zebra GC420t
Zebra TLP3842
I set up my printers and follow the calibration techniques for the printers. Then I take the calibrated values from the printers to use for setting up the stock information.
for example:
my GC420t printer gives me q408 Q102,24 which equates to a 2" W 0.5"H and 0.12" Gap reading.
Under the printing preferences -> Page Setup -> Stock I set up a New stock with
(all measurements in INCHES.)
Width: 2.00 Height 0.50
Left 0.05 Right 0.06
-> Stock
Gap Height: 0.12 Gap Offset: 0.0 (adjusting this just makes them go higher up the label, it won't accept a negative value)
In Bartender I have the page setup for the same values.
No matter what adjustments I make I cannot make the printers print inside this area. This is particularly an aggravation when I have to print on 0.375" x 0.375" label stocks. I have toyed with the Gap Offset and the advanced options for Position Adjustment. All of my stocks are portrait and 0 degrees.
None of my other Zebra printers have this issue. GX430t, ZM400 for reference.
Thanks in advance if you need any additional information I am ready to supply it.

In BarTender, choose the "View > View Options" Menu with the BT document open and now enable the "Show Unprintable Region" checkbox. Will you now see the unprintable width margins covering part of the left margin of your label? If yes, then this means that due to the unprintable width of the printer you cannot print on this are (this the related to the printers print head tolerance).
With regards to the not being able to print on the bottom side, this could be a page setup issue. Please attach your BT document to this forum topic by using the "More Reply Options" button.

No I do not have the issues you are discussing in any way. The Unprintable Region is lined up correctly where it should be.
My printers all have a maximum width of 4" on the print head so that is not at issue.
It is not even an issue of the page size the entire image is shifted up and to the right 0.08" when printed.

When opening this BT document I see that under the "File > Page Setup", now under the "Page" tab you've set a "Page Width" of "2.106" inches and under the "Layout" tab you've set a "Top" margin of "0.03" inches. Is that really how you've setup your page setup? In "labels with gaps" stock, the top and bottom margins need to be set to 0 and the page height needs to equal the label height (in a 1 row based page), which physically corresponds to the height of the label without counting the label gap. If this appears incorrect to you as well, please correct the problem.
Also, under the "File > Print" dialog and now the "Object Print Method" tab, try setting the lines an boxes to print as Raster Graphics instead. Will this make a difference?

The page setup section is correct. My label is 2"x.5" with .05" of exposed liner width on each side. That little bit of margin at the top and extra added to the side to side was from trying to move the image around.
To properly set a page set-up the stock needs to be set to the height and width of the stock as determined by the sensor on the printer then you set your page template to match the correct size of the stock. If the sensor reads your stock height as 2.03" you set page height to 2.03" and the template with a margin of .03" at the top to represent uprintable regions. This is a variance issue as a result of shadows on the sensor caused by the thickness of the stock. 16 years (and being a Journeyman in the trade) of profiling various printers and stocks would lead me to not question my page set-ups, I will however contend that you would have seen those margin settings as odd possibly.
When I print to my ZPL printers with the 7.3.3 drivers there is an unprintable region that no amount of tweaking will get the image into. It is as if the printer driver is incorrectly reading the Origin point of the label.
I will have to get some pictures to demonstrate.

Could you send me the corrected BarTender document for me to examine, where the top and bottom margins are set to 0 and where the page height equals the physical label height (without counting the gap). You can then always make position adjustments by modifying the gap height and gap offset and by doing position adjustments (you do this via the "File > Print > Document Properties..." dialog, but you mention you've already tried this...
It would be fine if you could create a new BarTender document (.btw) and just place some Sample Text on it (one text object using Windows fonts, the other text object using printer internal fonts). Make the page setup adjustments as mentioned to you, then print. If the problem persists, please send me your new BarTender document (.btw), a scan of how the labels print and as well a print file which demonstrates the issue. In order to obtain the print file, you'll go to the "File > Print" dialog in BarTender, enable the "Print to File" checkbox and now click on "Print".
Out of interest, I suppose that the printer settings are properly set and the the printer sensor is properly calibrated?
