Who else has tried Version 10? There are a lot of new features and powers to it, but at the same time, a couple things have gotten more confusing:

> See my screenshot - It appears "Screen Data" has been replaced with "Embedded Data", but nonetheless, there are two fields on this screen that I should be able to change right on here: The Name, and the Type (previously called Data Source). But, I have to click that edit button next to each option to be able to change it. I can't simply click on the "Name" field and edit it, nor does clicking on "Embedded Data" bring me a dropdown box like it used to.

> There's now no way to cancel changes to a field I've been editing properties for - since everything edits in real time. I can Undo, but only one change at a time.

> If I have two fields, un-grouped, I used to be able to select both objects by drawing a box around them, double-clicking into one of them, editing the x/y position, and the other object would move with it the same amount in the same direction. This doesn't seem to happen anymore? To make matters more weird, it doesn't even work if they ARE grouped. If I use the "Group Position" function, I still get weird results where one field will move but not the other.

> I was "missing" on grabbing barcodes, and I realized this is because clicking now in the white space NEXT to a human readable, but still would be within the object's selection box doesn't appear to count as selecting the object anymore. I have to click on the actual barcode, or the text of the HR, but next to the HR is not acceptable.

Other Thoughts:

- Multiple templates per label document? Great work! - Not being able to make each template a different size? Not good. Although, I guess that wouldn't be of as much use unless we could point each template individually to a different printer.

- When I double-clicked into a text or BC object on 9.4 and below, the Screen Data field would be highlighted, allowing me to immediately enter data. I now have to click and highlight manually. I realize I can use the Data Edit tool to quickly change data, but that is not how I am accustomed to editing data, and switching between the arrow and the data edit tool is just as cumbersome (Unless there is a keyboard shortcut I'm not aware of).

I'll have to continue updating this thread as things come up. Thanks for listening.

I have strange position of Export button in Search and Replace window in Commander 10.0. Can anyone confirm?

Markus, we've reproduced and passed that incorrect button location on to our development team.

nRyder, thank you for the feedback, and please continue to send any thoughts you have. We'll forward all of this on to our product management team for further review.

If I create 2 bar code objects, and select both to edit, there are now many things I cannot batch-edit that I used to. This includes Symbology, Barcode size, Human Readable offset, etc.

One of the things that changed with version 10.0 is that the properties dialog for objects is now modeless. That means that the dialog is not tied to a single object once opened. You can actually select and even create various objects without having to open and close the dialog each time.

To see what I mean, try this:

Open BarTender and create a new blank label

Drop a text object down

Double click the object to open properties

Now, without closing the properties dialog, drop a second text object down
You’ll notice that the modeless dialog just updates to show the properties of whichever object is selected or created. You can use this to quickly change data by double clicking any object while the properties dialog is open (this addresses one of the issues from your first post). I know that doesn’t address your latest concern, but I want to make sure you know what the scope of the change is.

I think what you are asking for here is to be able to change all like properties for any selected objects (e.g. symbology when multiple bar codes are selected). Is that accurate?

We already have this for some objects, for instance, if you select multiple text objects you can change the font for all objects at once. I can put in a feature request to expand this to other objects and properties, but I’m not sure exactly what the limitations are right now. We'll look into it.

nRyder, not sure if this is helpful, but I found a way to edit the embedded data field for the data source.

If you're viewing the data source properties after selecting a substring (I guess its called 'data source' now!), you can press Alt+D to highlight the field, then enter your data. Good luck!

I'm saying that in 9.4 I could do this, and now I cannot. We have thousands of formats where we replicate fields and formatting across a label document, so the ability to edit the properties of all objects at once is essential. I realize we could be setting up our page setup as a 2 or 3 column setup, but that is not as easy for our print users when it comes to some of the more complex numbering we do. Personally, I cannot see upgrading our design users to 10.0.

This is also why the bugged Multi-Position feature is problematic - when we need to replicate fields a precise amount across the label format.

Thanks for your replies thusfar.

Is the change to line thickness setting from using Inches to using Points irreversible? Meaning there isn't a toggle somewhere I can hit for this? (see screenshot comparing 10.0 to 9.4).

A user just brought this up to me - someone used to designing his lines with inch dimensions apparently.

Addition : Just creating a data entry form (formerly prompt design) and trying to create a dropdown list. Looks like I can't Ctrl+V into the display text to populate the dropdown list. I can right click and click 'paste', but Ctrl+V tries to paste whatever text I had onto the data entry form.
