Using 'prompt Dialog' Type Screen To Select Format
I am hoping that someone may be able to propose a solution to a particular problem that we have.
We have several hundred products that use a variety of different label formats (approximately 40 different formats of label to cover all products) and each product has a packaging label and serial label. Due to the similarity of label formats the BarTender Print Station solution would not really work as the users would not be able to differentiate the label formats easily.
I would like a ‘print only user’ to be able to access a screen (similar to the print wizard prompt dialog) where, using a drop down list, they are able to enter or select a product part number. The user would also be able to use a radio button or checkbox to identify if the label required is a serial label or packaging label at this point. Based on this product part number and checkbox it then calls up the appropriate label template via information held in a database. The user can then enter serial number data and label quantity before printing.
I would be very interested to hear your suggestions. We are using BarTender Enterprise Automation Edition 9.4 and our Part information is held in an Epicor ERP database.

Your best option is to create a front-end application form with something like Visual Basic and have it control BarTender via automation for the labels that you wish to print. Note that the Automation edition or above would be needed for this.
See the below white papers on BarTender automation and also the BarTender Help system for a full reference.

In this way you would have full control on what gets presented to the print operator and it hides BarTender from view.0 -
