Database Recommendations
After 20+ years of connecting to excel files, I have grown impatient. Currently if two workstations are working with labels that access the same spread sheet, only one workstation can print labels at a time. I am having to recreate my source data and am fairly wide open to moving to a new structure. I am however struggling to find the "pros" and "cons" of each available connection from a bartender standpoint.

As far as I have come across it is only Excel that has the locked issue and so any other database that has an ODBC driver or a bespoke connector in BarTender should be okay to use and so it is just a question of finding one that you like taking into consideration accessibility to create the database and the cost etc I would suggest.
As a workaround for Excel, have you thought about exporting your data to a flat text file (not CSV format, although you can still use comma delimitation in the TXT file)? That way both workstations can connect to the same text file at the same time but you would just need to remember to re-export the file each time you updated the spreadsheet
