Label printing to CAB printers fails intermittently for the last couple of weeks?
We have 3 x Windows 10 20h2 pc's running Bartender 10.1 all printing to CAB a6+ label printers. For the past couple of weeks we have experienced print failures intermittently. When we get a failure we receive an error on the printer queue in Windows and nothing prints, when it fails we are unable to print from any app or even a Windows test page they all fail with a printer error. When we come to look at it we have to re start printer services, re start the pc, pause and re start the printer and eventually we get it working again, only for it to fail again the following day, this happens on all 3 printer / pc combinations. I have even built a replacement pc on Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 1809 (less susceptible to updates) and the issue still happens on this PC. we have been running these for years and this has only just started to happen since early November, any ideas?

Also, just fyi we are running Bartender 10.1 sr4 build 2961 - which I have read is un-supported but slightly older versions 1803 are supported. But we have been running this configuration for a number of years so far without issue.

Hi Craig,
Welcome to the BarTender Community Forums!
This could be related to a compatibility issue caused by a recent Windows 10 20h2 patch; we can't guarantee this being the cause, however, since BarTender 10.1 SR4's end of support was prior to Windows 10 20h2 having been released.
What we do guarantee (and you already mentioned) is that BarTender 10.1 SR4 is supported on Windows 10 1803. If you have the capability, we would recommend rolling back to Windows 10 1803 (or to any given point in which BarTender functioned as expected); or you could always consider updating your BarTender version so it remains compatible with newer Windows versions now and in the future.
Have you considered trialing our BarTender 2021 software? We could download the 30 day trial and test it with the printers in order to see whether the issue remains or not. This way we could rule out a compatibility issue being the cause of this intermittent failure you are experiencing.

I have been called to one of the machines this morning as once again nothing would print, I went through my normal fault finding process and found that on this occasion re starting the Printer Maestro service kicked things into life. But a full re start of the computer didn't resolve the issue prior to me moving on to look at the services. Until now it had been difficult to see exactly which fault finding task got things working again.
Also FYI ref upgrading the software version this would be a big task as we have integrations to other applications and hundreds of templates that would need to be updated, so this would be a full project if we do actually need to do this.
