Commander Service/application
Hi all!
I was successful in configuring the Commander to poll my files and send them to printer.
However, even if my user should have all the necessary permissions, the service won't run.
As an application however everything works fine.
My concern is now about understanding if there is something else I can look at to configure the service, since I do not want to leave the Commander window open on my server...
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Work through the Commander trouble-shooter, and come back if you still have problems:

Hello,
I already read the document: it was through it that I got the commander working. I installed and gave the Bartender and Commander services the local Administrator account credentials: it's from this account that commander is executed.
The problem is that as an application it works, as a service not. Is there a way to understand the issue through logging for example? In the standard logs I do not see anything wrong.
My issue is due to the fact that the service starts automatically in case of restart of the server, while, working as an application, the commander must be started by hand or at least with a scheduled task, which is not a good solution.
May you help me? Thanks!0 -
In what way does it not work when running as a service? Does the trigger files get detected? Do they get renamed? Is it just a failure to produce a print job while all else appear fine? Please give details.
What if anything has been configured in the BarTender command handler? Note that detection needs to be stopped before the command handler can be configured. Under the "Login" or "User Account" tab, tell me what has been specified.
Please note that just because a local admin account is in use, it does not always follow that the user has sufficient permissions on the files, folders and printer resources that BarTender will need to complete the job. Most likely it will, but this is not the case 100% of the time.
Also, confirm the edition, version and build of BarTender in use and the version of Windows you are running.0 -

Thanks Ian, here are my answers:

The trigger is correctly detected, everything appears fine but for the printing process: it comes to the printer but nothing is printed. This does not happen while using commander as an application.

My application has embedded the creation of a file with the bartender command line, so my requirement is to use the bartender script. However, I tried also with Bartender command handler (setting Administrator as user) and the issue is not solved.

You are right, but I'm sure the permissions are correct. I'm a bit worried because at customer site I'll have to deal with W2008 R2 and a non-local admin account (UAC may create further problems)

Bartender 9.4 (2749) on Win Server 2003 SP2.
Thank you very much0 -
Would it be possible for you to attach the Commander task list, BarTender label format, and the trigger file that your system produces for Commander. It's probably the case that there is a mistake in there somewhere, so it makes things a lot easier if we can just examine it.
If you don't like the idea of sharing these files publicly in the forum, then I suggest you send an email to technical support, referencing this forum topic, requesting assistance with the files attached. See the below link for our contact details:

Thanks for your help, I was able to solve everything by upgrading my local environment to a new OS (Windows Server 2008 R2).
