Hi,

I have a barcode label which consist of barcode 1 and barcode 2. Ref to attached

For barcode 1 => user scan in the product serial number (e.g 1234567890) using barcode scanner.

For Barcode 2 => Based on first five digit (e.g 12345xxxxx) of barcode 1 to display the part number.

Example:

S/No---Barcode 1         Part Number Barcode 2

12345xxxxx                       abcde

09566xxxxx                        fghij

Would like to check how to get barcode 2 to display correct part number when operator scan in s/no in barcode 1.

Appreciate for the help. Thank you very much.

Hello Xuan,

From the looks of it you wish to dynamically modify the value of Barcode2 depending on the value of Barcode1. Even though on our v10.1 we greatly improved our conditional printing capabilities for such a custom process (roughly each entered character corresponds to a different letters) you would need to create a custom VB script on Barcode2.

Basically set up a VB script type data source in Barcode2 that analyses the data being entered and displays the correct value.

Regards.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply...

Do you have any sample of the VB script that can analyses the data being entered and displays the correct value?

Between the BarTender version that we currently used is ver9.3.

Thank you very much for your help.

How many different values can Bar code 1 take, just 2 or more?

12345xxxxx

09566xxxxx

How exactly will the first 5 digits from Bar code 1 translate to the part number from Bar code 2? Please provide detailed explanation on this and we might be able to help.

Hi,

Thank you for your help.

Barcode 1 is the serial number of product which is consists of 13 digits. e.g ABCDE YYMM xxxx

The first 5 digits are alphabet use to differential hardware configuration and remaining number is just MM YY and 4 digits of running number. (e.g ABCDA 1408 0001). For my cases, total 8 different hardware configurations with 8 different P/No (barcode 2)

So when operator use scanner to scan the product S/No, the S/No will display at Barcode 1. Base on barcode 1, the correct P/No will display at barcode 2.

e. g. Operator scan product S/No: ABCDA 1408 0001 at barcode 1, the barcode 2 will auto display P/No: 1000223.

1. Barcode 1 (ABCDA YYMMxxxx) = Barcode 2 (P/No: 1000223)

2. Barcode 1 (ABCDB YYMMxxxx) = Barcode 2 (P/No: 1000224)

3. Barcode 1 (ABCDC YYMMxxxx) = Barcode 2 (P/No: 1000225)

Thank you.

Find attached a sample on how this can be achieved. Double click on the second bar code and now click the "Edit with Script Assistant" button. The VBScript is as follows:

Select Case Left (Format.NamedSubStrings("mybarcode").Value, 5)
    Case "ABCDA"
        value = 1000223
    Case "ABCDB"
        value = 1000224
    Case "ABCDC"
        value = 1000225
End Select

"mybarcode" is the shared name I've given to the embedded data source from the first bar code object.

Hi..

Thank you for your help. I tried but it failed to display the P/No for barcode 2.
Below is the setup that I tried:

1) Set data source for barcode 1  (ABCDA YYMMxxxx) to screen data and set the object name under general to mybarcode.
2) Set data source for Barcode 2 (P/No: 1000223) to visual basic script and type is event control scripts.
3) Set the share/name to mybarcode
4) Click on edit and copy VBScript as above under on post prompt event.
5) Barcode 2 (P/No) will not change accordingly. It show sample text for barcode 2..

Refer to the attachment for reference.

Kindly help to check any incorrect for the setup?

Thank you very much for the help.
