Storing Datasource Information Separately From Btw File フォローする

We recently changed a database server and had to manually go through hundreds of label formats to change the database connection string.  It would be nice if these can be externalized from the format so that you wouldn't have to touch all of the files.  A good example is the way SQL Server reporting services works.  There you can define separate data sources (and datasets) and use them in multiple reports.

Thanks for the suggestion.  Certainly we're looking to improve our overall database connectivity in BarTender, and this seems like a sensible proposal.

I'm one who is looking for the added functionality of changing database connectivity on the fly.  I want to be able to change from production database to test database programmatically.  My workaround now is to have two copies of of each label and switch which label I'm using based on the environment I'm in.  It works but it is really cumbersome when it comes to changing the labels. Please add this feature soon if possible.

Another vote for this.  I've been looking for this feature since long as well. I think it would really improve usability.

Another vote for this, as an option it would  be nice to have something like Labelview used to have.  All your database's had to be in the same location/folder and as part of the administrator file locations you specify where they are by folder location.  Therefore when a new customer started with the designs/database's stored locally it was easy to switch to a network location in the future.

Does BarTender 2016 include this feature?  I read there is "Improved Database Connectivity" but the details don't spell out this feature.

Yes, BarTender 2016 supports this feature.  After you connect to a database for the first time, from within the database setup dialog you are able to name the database connection, via a link in the UI, which then allows you to share the connection between multiple documents/users.  Changing this connection will change the connection settings for all documents that have used the connection.

Ian C - Thanks a bunch for the response - that is helpful.  Can you change this connection setting on the fly programmatically?  Sounds like there are two ways of doing this.  1. Setting up two named connections and changing which connection the document uses.  2. Modify one named connection that you set up and change which database it points to.

Not by automation as far as I know.  However, the connection details are help in an XML file under the "C:\ProgramData\Seagull\Database Connections".  In theory you could modify the file programmatically and reload the document or refresh the DB connection.

Then no, BarTender 2016 doesn't support the feature that this thread is requesting.

jaredbaszler: Actually, the original thread was regarding the sharing of a single database connection between multiple documents which is what BarTender 2016 now supports.  Your posts then asked for additional functionality.  Perhaps you should have started a new post to make the distinction...
