External Data Source Within Bartender Web Printer Server W/drop Down List
Hey guys, I'm trying to do something here which im sure has been done a million times i just cannot figure it out. I've watched several videos just not getting it here. Maybe what i'm trying to do is not available at this time. I'd like to preface this with saying im trying to have this work in the Web Print Server piece as i do NOT want my users getting access to the bartender app itself. I have a spreadsheet with 3 columns (Vendor Part Number, Item Description and Bar Code Information) I have the database source added to Bartender and the labels print OK from Bartender when i select one at a time. When I go to print them from the Web Printer Server all 66 of them print at once. I need the ability for the user to be able to select one of them from the web interface and print X amount of those labels. Can this be done with a drop down menu of my Vendor Part Numbers and then married up to the Item Description and populate the bar code information to print. Sorry for the long post. i may be over complicating this, but maybe not. Thanks Rich T. ( PVS Chemicals)

Hello,
If you wish to filter your database before printing you would need to use a "query Prompt". Unfortunately the latter is not compatible with "dropdown lists". For more information please watch the following training video:
In any case, if you are only using the Web Print Server (WPS) in order to prevent users from accessing the label design, why don't you use our "Print Station" application instead? It will serve the same purpose offering an easy "click and print" interface and will prevent users from accessing the actual designs in BarTender. Actually, there are several layers of security you can add with Print Station:
a. Block Print Station as a full screen application (users can only exit such interface with a password).
b. Have BarTender work as "Print-Only", so even if users have access to the design in BarTender they wouldn't be able to change the design.
c. Use our "Security Center" application to add different layers of access on a user basis.

If i used a query prompt they would have to know the name or product number in order to get the right label up to print. am i correct on this ?

One more question. If i go the Print Station route. Is there a standalone installer i can package to push out to my clients ?

Hello,
Please note that even if using Print Station, the application actually generating the print job will still be BarTender running in the background; which means that BarTender always needs to be installed.
in any case, BarTender can be installed "silently" through command lines for such a purpose as yours. For details information on how to get this done please read the following white papers:
