Using A Query Prompt With Db Defined Serialization 关注

Hello,

I have a DB that stores two fields I'm interested in, Item and Quantity:

Item,Qty

100, 3

101, 2

102, 4

I have the Qty field linked to 'Serial Numbers' in the Print menu.  I have also created a Query Prompt that will prompt for the Item.  The Default Value of my prompt is empty as the data will constantly be changing.  The Query Prompt is set as a data source for a text input box on my data entry form.  My requirement is for the user to scan a barcode of the Item into the Query Prompt and then print out RFID labels based on the quantity associated with the Item.  Based on the example above, if the user scans in item 100 then 3 serialized labels would print.

I'm having a number of problems getting the Query Prompt to work successfully.  Here are a a number of settings I tried with the Record Selection portion of the Print menu:

  • Print -> Use Database -> Unchecked: When I do this I can get to the Query Prompt to display after clicking print but the 'Print' button on the data entry form stays disabled no matter what value I put in there.

  • Print -> Use Database -> Checked: I have tried with the Queried Records drop down to set to different options (All, Selected, Selected-At-Print-Time) I get one of two results with this, 1) 'BarTender Warning Message #2755', 'Serial Numbers must be a number greater than or equal to 1'.  If I press Continue the data entry form displays and I can print, but the # of labels is always just 1, and 2) I get an empty Record Selection prompt displayed and then I get the error message above.

So basically, I'm unable to display a Query Prompt that will actually print the correct # of serial numbers based on the selection.  Any suggestions are appreciated.  I have attached my label format as well as the sample DB I'm working with.

Edit: I'm working with v 2016 Enterprise Automation

I was struggling to get that working so changed tac a bit. Not got an RFID printer to hand so had adjusted that field to a text field for my testing and then added the changes to a copy of your download so hopefully it still works with the tag variant

Pete T - First off, thanks for your post.  Things are working as expected with the changes you made.  Just to confirm what you did:

  • Created a Data Source that was linked to the DB field storing the quantity
  • Changed the 'Serialized Labels' field in the Print menu from looking at the DB field directly, to looking the Data Source created

Thanks again!

Yes, sorry I didnt explain it but you are correct in what you have gleaned from the revised label..

I'm not entirely sure why it didnt work the other way to be honest as you should be able to pull the quantity out of the database directly, but at least it is working now.
