Creating Multiple .btw Labels From A Single Excel File
Hello all,
I need to create multiple labels, to be printed by Print Station (arranged by folders, etc.), by taking the information from a single Excel file with around 100 rows (and therefore 100 different labels) and around 4 fields per row (name, description, date, barcode)
I have created a master template label (including common text plus specific above fields), and I'd need to create 100 different label files by taking the information row by row. The only way to make that (I have found so far) is to manually create 100 Bartender files (.BTW) by applying filter on the database connection. So:
LABEL 1:
data taken for Excel fields of row 1
LABEL 2:
data taken for Excel fields of row 2
LABEL 100:
For one hundred rows it takes too much time but, anytime I need to change the format of the label, I need to create again the 100x .BTW files.
Is there any way to automatice this process and automatically create the 100 files by taking the Excel rows data? I'd like to keep the Print Station workflow by selecting from the screen the label to print (with preview on the screen, etc.), so in theory i'd need to have 100x BTW files, right? (I need to distribute the 100x files along different folders -mannually-, not all on the same folder, hence my feeling about need to have 100x different files)
Surely a very simple question, but I am not able to find the right wa to do that.
Many thanks in advance,
David

Hello Davanari,
From your description it looks like you actually only need a single BarTender document or template (do correct me if I'm wrong) sourcing for data from your database. Note that when connecting a document to a database it will automatically print a label for each record found in your database (unless configured otherwise, note that you can specify different copies per record).
If you instead wish to separately print only one record each time you send a print job, you can always apply a query over the database so you are able to filter it each time.

Many thanks for your quick reply
The way you propose is very interesting, but I'd like to use the PrintStation as a very nice way to see all the possible labels (around 100) by searching on the screen and press on top of the required one (there will be several folders, etc).. Also PrintStation shows a preview of th label, etc. I am afraid that there is no way to have ONLY one template and makes Prinstation to show all the possible labels based on the recordrs found in my database (Excel file), and filtering by folders based on a specific field of the database (e.g. in folder "beer" of PrintStation you see all the labels with "food type"=beer, in folder "juice" you see all the labels with "food type"=juice, etc.)
By using query instead of PrintStation the user needs to be very specific, I think (I need to print just an specific label, not a group of them based on the field value).
Many thanks again

Well, you could create different copies of the same document, each with a different "fixed" query (thus selecting a fixed record value). This will save time at design time, but whenever you need to change your design it would still be a nightmare.
Note that even with a single document and using a query prompt you could still perform a print preview. Also note that you can use the query prompt to select those record that "start" with a certain value and then manually select the appropriate one from a resulting list (is not necessary for the operators to enter the exact record value they need).
The latter method will allow you to save time at design and maintenance and will still provide the possibility of using Print Station's print preview option (although we fewer documents).
Regards.

Create multiple .btw labels from a single Excel file with Integration Builder.
Can you do it?
Also I would like to create multiple .btw files from a single Excel file.0 -

Possibly but can you explain exactly what you mean, how are you triggering integration builder, is it multiple labels of the same template (ie just different data on the same layout) or different data printer on to different templates (and even to different printers) etc .

We need it for a new customer who has to create a series of basic labels that will then gradually customize over time. We have to do this for every new customer.
