Record selection - Different angles to print the labels?
we have the following issue:
We use the print station with the same printer to label many different products.
We are using the print station with a data entry form where we choose the product to print.
Due to limitations with our packaging machines some products have to be placed in different positions.
Is it possible to enter an angle in your product database i.e. Product A needs the label to come out rotated by 45° ?
Does the label itself need to be rotated or just the data fields? For example
If it is just the data fields then you could create multiple templates in the same label file and use the Conditional Printing settings to select which template to use.
If however you need to print the labels in a different orientation then that is more problematic and you would probably need different labels0
We use round labels so different labels are not needed - we would need:0
Conditional printing maybe the way to go.
If the rotation is machine (ie printer specific) then you could do something like this:
Template 1 is set to print with the fields vertically on the label if the Zebra ZT620 (203 dpi) printer is selected, whilst as you can see in the bottom left, Template 2 prints with the fields rotated by 90 degrees is the Canon driver is chosen0
....or you could use the angle figure you suggested above in the database to select the template.
There is an option to to use VB to adjust the rotation angle of object which you maybe able to use as an alternative but you would have to configure every field on the label to use this and also link the actual setting (ie just typed in 45) to the source of the angle required (ie your database field)0
Thanks - option 1 will not work as we use the same printer for every product.
option 2 seems to work in theory but it messes up the formatting(for a number of fields we use the auto-fit functions) and we'd need the whole label rotated not the fields seperately.
But thanks a lot for your efforts!0
For option 2 the formatting is to with the font used and if you select a True Type font then the text should rotate and scale correctly, however having tested it with multiple fields, although they rotate it effectively changes the position of the fields on the label and so isnt a viable solution after all.
Depending on how many different orientations you need then you could create a new template for each rotation required and then pull the matching value from the database at print and set up conditional printing based on that value (ie rather than a printer specific template create a 45 degrees, 90 degrees and 125 degrees version etc as required)0
Creating a template for each needed angle and use conditional printing seems like a perfectly fine solution.
Again, thanks a lot for your help!0
