Hello,

I tried to use the Driver on a Windows 2008 r2 printserver. My Problem is, that the Driver works if the local user on my Workstation is a local admin, but a normal user causes the driver to crash. See attached files.

Any hints were I could look to solve the problem?

Thanks and bye

Carsten

I would first suggest that you install the latest version (v7.3.2) of the driver on your server.

Before installing you might need to import the driver’s certificate into the group policy of the server.  See the below steps on how to do this:

Step 1 - Extract the Seagull Certificate file from the catalog file (actually, any driver dll or exe can be used).

Extracting the certificate:
- Locate the catalog file, it can be found with the rest of the driver files and has the .cat extension.
- Right click on the cat file and click on 'Open'.
- Click on 'View Signature' button at the bottom of the dialog.
- Click on 'View Certificate' button.
- On the next dialog, click on the 'Details' tab at the top.
- Click on the 'Copy to file' button at the bottom.
- Step through the export wizard. The user will need to provide a location and file name for the certificate, but the rest of the settings shouldn't need to be changed.

Step 2 - Once the certificate is extracted, that certificate will need to be imported to the 'Trusted Publishers' key for the domain group policy for the server.

Importing the certificate into the group policy:
- Open the Group Policy Management application. Start->Administrative Tools->Group Policy Management.
- Locate and right click on the domain group policy for the cluster, click on 'Edit'.
- Drill down into Computer Configuration -> Policy -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Public Key Policies.
- Right click on the 'Trusted Publishers' and click on 'Import'.
- Step through the import wizard, provide the location and name of the certificate when asked, then finish the wizard. Other than the file, no other settings should need to be changed.

These steps were set up with Windows 2008 R2 64-bit systems in mind.  Once the certificate for Seagull is imported to the group policy, all drivers signed by Seagull will now install without the security prompts on any
computer on that domain.

On the server, make sure the installed driver has permissions set so that all users that need to can utilize it.

Hi Ian,

is there any way to obtain a version history of the Windows drivers? We have deployed your drivers on W2k8 R2 printservers (ver. 7.3.1 M-0) and we'd like to find out if some of the issues (not many) we are having might be related to the rather outdated driver version.

Thanks for your help.

Best regards,

Matthias

mwkraus: The printer driver version history can be found at the below link, although the information we publish isn't a detailed change log:

At time of writing I would recommend you update to the latest v7.3.4 as this solves a number of known issues that will affect the version you have:
