Hi. I am using Bartender 9.4 and I would like to automatically send labels as PDF to a mail-address. Can I do that with Bartender or do I need additional products? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello Wernerd and sorry for the delay.

I'm afraid that although technically possible, sending PDFs of BarTender documents through email goes against our End User License Agreement (EULA) you accepted when purchasing our license. That is something you cannot do.

Could you let me know why would you want to do such a thing? There are probably other alternatives you can work with using our software.

Regards.

Not having read the entire contents of the EULA, why is something like this against it?

Helo Kernel,

It seems like I certainly misspoke. This is what our EULA says:

Licensing of the Automation and Enterprise Automation editions is based on the maximum number of printers used. A printer should be counted as used if BarTender directly, or when automated by any of the companion applications, prints a template from a BarTender Document (BTW file) directly to that printer, or creates a PDF or similar type of data stream that is then printed to that printer. While Seagull License Server attempts to monitor the printer count and license compliance, it is your responsibility to ensure that you are licensed for the actual number of printers being used.

You can certainly print to PDF, but after doing so it's your responsibility that those PDFs are printing in no more than your licensed printers.

*I posted my previous comment on the supposition that your wouldn't be able to track in which printers emailed sent PDFs are being used, which can certainly be a false statement, so I'm sorry for that.

With BarTender you could automate the creating of the PDFs from BarTender using our companion application Commander, or through one of the other automation methods (.NET SDKs, ActiveX,...); but the action of sending the PDF through email would need to be managed through your own application.

For example, on Commander you could print to PDF with Commander script selecting a PDF driver and specifying the name of the print job, which will result in the name of the actual produced file (the latter is needed or the print job will fail):

%BTW% /AF=C:\Seagull\Document.btw" /PRN="<PDF Driver>" /PrintJobName=<printer job name>  /P

%END%

**In any case, if you wish to send print jobs through the Internet note please note that we do support "Internet Printing" either through our BarTender Web Print Server application, or building your own web application that automates BarTender through our .NET Print Server SDK.

Regards.
