Commander Task Looping Without Printing
I'm having a problem for which I haven't found any working resolution so far.
I've set-up a pretty basic task in Commmnder, which will read .CSV files from a remote folder (specified as a UNC path: \\server\folder), convert them to .DAT after reading and then prints a label by putting the CSV data into the label fields.
This task is working if I use a local folder for the CSV files, but when I use a remote folder specified in a UNC path, the task just loop without results. The Status says "File Found", then "Scanning"...after it repeats the same thign over and over: "File Found", "Scanning", "Fle Found", "Scanning", etc.
In the log file, all I have is the following:
2011-12-01 11:06:19 2002 Information Service OK Commander started detection on computer SVRFSMART
I've tried some resolutions proposed for other problems without success: running Commander as an application and changing the Detectino Method from Immediate to Poll.
I'm pretty certain it can't be a permission/authorization problem, as I'm logged on the server in which Commander is installed as our Administrator account, which account I also provided for the Commander Service. This Administrator account has alla ccess everywhere, but I took no chance and gave this account full control on the folder where my .CSV are.
Everything I can think of have been tried...the only way I can make it work is by changing the folder path to a local one, but it shouldn't have to be like this.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

1. What is the edition, version and build of BarTender/Commander in use?
2. What version of Windows is BarTender/Commander running on?
3. Is the scan folder using a Windows file system, and if so, what version of Windows is that computer running? If not, please give details.
4. Does the trigger file get renamed?
5. Does Commander try to issue any of the commands for that task, or does nothing happen literally except for the file being detected?0 -

Hi,
1. We've just bought BarTender Automation.
BarTender
Edition: Automation (3 printers)
BarTender Version: 9.4 SR3
BarTender Build: 2781
OS: Windows Server 2008 Standard without HyperV (x86), SP2
Commander (same thing as BarTender)
Edition: Automation (3 printers)
BarTender Version: 9.4 SR3
BarTender Build: 2781
OS: Windows Server 2008 Standard without HyperV (x86), SP2
2. See OS above.
3. The scan folder is located on a Windows OS server, so I guess it means it's a Windows file system. Windows Server 2008 Standard SP1. One thing though that my System Admin just told me: this remote server is 64-bit, contrary to the BarTender/Commander server which is 32-bit.
4. No rename.
5. I don't know how to monitor the commands you are talking about. All I can tell is the Status the switching between "File Found" and "Scanning" and the log showing nothing.
Thanks a lot,

Hi, Carl:
According to your description, your csv file is found but not able to change to .dat so it is not renamed yet. Is it correct? You can observe this on your shared path folder to see if the .csv has been renamed to .dat.
The administrator account you use is local computer administrator account or domain administrator account?
It look like there is no permission to rename the file on shared folder. Do you mind giving a try on your shared \\server\folder right click-> Property-> Security tab-> click on the account you choose and tick all the permissions for read/write/modify/execute or temporary add a everyone account and allow all permissions for a test.
If it still does not work, please turn on your Bartender logging through Administer-> Log setup-> Text File log. Can you send your commander file(*.tl), bartender label format(*.btw) file, csv file and log file to me at asiatech@seagullscientific.com, we can look into more for you.0 -

Yes: the files aren't getting renamed.
The adminstrator account is a domain administrator account. I've checked with our system admin.
On the shared folder, there was already read/write/execute permissions for Everyone + Full control permissions on the domain administrator account used to log on the server and specified in Commander Service.
I'll be sending you the files...if we find any resolution, I'll post the results here for others to see someday.
Thanks !0 -
On the scan folder, I would suggest you remove all permissions and then re-introduce them from scratch. Sometimes permissions can become corrupted, so the quickest way to solve such a problem is to remove them entirely and then set them from new. 0 -

I've reworked the folder sharing properties with my system administrator and it seems there was 2 different tabs to update and I only knew about one.
Upon retesting, the file in the shared folder was correctly renamed and processed.
It didn't print, but this is due to another problem: all of our server printers have disappeared from the Control Panel -> Printers section.
Since we've installed BarTender Automation on this server, we're experiencing many problems related to our printers that we never had before. We'll need to figure this out or install our software to another place.
In any case, I think my initial problem is solved, so we can consider this thread closed successfully.
Thank you for the follow-up.0 -

Hi Carlbonneau - I am having a problem that sounds exactly like this. Which 2 different tabs are you referring to when you describe your solution? I have identified as you did that the permissions on the folder in the "Security" tab are full control/read/write/modify etc. What is the other tab? Any info you could provide would be much appreciated.

Check both the "Security" and "Sharing" tab options of your folder.
If I recall correctly, I'm pretty sure that our error came from a setup problem in one of these 2 tabs.0 -

Hi,
I have the same issue with my bartender (automation ) commander. I try the config, it work with local folder but doesn't work with network folder like (\\webfolder\). I check the folder permission. all looks fine. I can manually rename the trigger file and folder's name. What else I need do to fix this. Please help.

yi_huang@ao-inc.com: We suggest you use the Polling detection method for scanning network folders as immediate detection over the network is not always reliable. In any case, I suggest you look at upgrading to BarTender 2016 if you can as we've replaced Commander with the new Integrations Platform which is much more powerful and fully featured. http://www.seagullscientific.com/label-software/barcode-label-design-and-printing/
