Installed the R2 version. I was on version R1.

In database setup when I select Oracle as the type of database,

in server field enter my ip address for database server, specify a user

name and password for database authentication.

    Getting error:

ORA-12504: TNSlistener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA.

Where do I put the tnsnames.ora entry to tell it which database I am connecting?

    Thanks.

I've not used Oracle databases myself, so am no expert, but wouldn't you also need to specify the name of the database server and not just the computer name/IP?  For example: 195.168.1.123\myDBServer

I have tried just the server ip in Server field and different combinations of database name in the Server field with the server ip address but get

ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified.

each time.  So my syntax is not correct.

    Thanks.

I had the same problem with Bartender 2016 R2 and Oracle 11g. After a very painful search i found out that you should put on the "Server" text the info like: <IP>/<sid> e.g 192.168.10.3/orcl where this IP is your server`s IP and sid is your Oracle instance name you would like to connect.

Tried with my server ip a slash and then my database SID:   x.x.x.x/SID

Get a pop up box   labeled "Error Connecting", ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor

I can then take what I put in the server field and use with TNSPING command and it shows connection to server and SID is OK.

Can we ask the tech support since we try out the product ?

I myself have many problem connecting with Oracle and the provided info for such a product is less than satisfactory..

Yes you can contact tech-support, even if you're only using the Trial edition currently.
