Error 1401 Disabled Our Printers With No Resolution 追蹤

We have v10 with a 3 printer license. We were testing some other printers on our network for connectivity and driver setup etc, without knowing that in v10 if you do this it will automatically disable our other licensed printers (which we use on our production floor) with no ability to reset the licenses or enable them again.

I called support and he said I have to wait 7 days for the license server to reset before I can use those printers again. That was their answer. I guess if you go over seven print attempts it just stops allowing anything else to be printed on any other printer, period.

Does this make any sense for people that are actually using this for a business? In older versions we were only allowed our 3 printers, but you could change what printers were enabled when we wanted to make changes (or if someone accidentally chose another network printer and we went over our quota). It allowed some flexibility there in case configuration changes were necessary.

In v10 if someone attempts a test print to another printer, it automatically assigns itself a printer license and you don't have any control over it. If that's not the printer or driver you meant to use, too bad I guess?

Wondering if someone here might have any other solutions. I appreciate any help.

thanks.

With regards to printer licensing in Automation Editions of BarTender, this is how it works since v9.3 of BarTender:

  • Whenever printing to a printer which has exceeded the license usage, you will get a 30 day "grace period", during which you can continue printing to this printer until you get your License Server licenses upgraded. This means that you can temporarily print to up to double the number of printers your license is licensed for. If you own a 3 printer license, thanks to this feature you will be able to print up to 6 printers temporarily. This covers e.g. an emergency situation where all the printers you use with BT break and need to be replaced.
  • Thanks to this 30 day grace period feature, manually deleting printers in License Server is not needed. The printer usage is being counted for 7 days. After 7 days of not printing to the printer, the printer will be automatically removed (unless you’ve enabled the use of the “Keep” checkbox for this printer). This property, combined with the 30 day printer-limit grace period is a very flexible licensing approach.
  • If the 30 day grace period has come to an end, and you're still making use of more printers than what you're licensed for, printing will be denied to the less used printers.
  • Further information can be found on our White Paper: http://s3.amazonaws.com/SeagullBarTender/ftp/WhitePapers/WhitePaper_LicensingForBarTendersAutomationEditions_English.pdf
  • In order to workaround your issues, Tech-Support can offer you:
    • A 7 day Trial extension code for each BarTender client you need to print with. By deactivating BarTender and entering the Trial extension code, you will be able to print your labels without BarTender needing to contact Seagull License Server. This will give License Server time enough to clean the "used printer list" and make printer licenses available to you. If you didn't get a Trial extension code from support, please ask for one.
    • In License Server, for each "Used Printer" in the used printer list, you can enable a "Keep" checkbox. If you enable this checkbox for your most important printers (the ones which always must be available), printing to these printers won't be denied (obviously if the number of printers with "Keep" checkbox do not exceed the number of total printers you're licensed for).

Hope this helps.

The only catch is a 'trial extension' (for software we paid a $500 license for) has to be installed on every workstation using the software. This isn't a realistic solution for us, not to mention ridiculous.

We reverted back to an old version since the license we paid for in 10 seems to have no capacity for testing and setup before disbaling itself after sending test prints. In a network with many printers to configure and where some testing is required before finalizing the printer license configuration for the three we want to finally use, this just doesn't work.

We work within alot of license restrictions and rules, but disbaling business software for seven days with no solution but installing a trial version has got to be the dumbest license design I've ever seen.

Currently, there is no other solution to this, but having in mind that in validated environments you need to be fully capable of testing the software to be installed, we're considering changing this behaviour so that Seagull License Server can also be tested before being activated as an Automation or Enterprise Automation Edition.
