Is This New Functionality On Purpose? 追蹤

Trying version 10.1. Is this really on purpose? Single clicking text fields (even when trying to move them) actually goes into "edit-data" mode?

The functionality where trying to move a text field actually just edits its contents is inconsistent with BarCode fields, and Word Processor fields, and results in some confusing edits (or non-edits). I dread having to walk a customer through re-positioning a text object and having to say "Well click on the border of the text object. Yes if you click in the middle it will start editing it. Okay now to add some new data sources you need to double-click on that text field, but only double click on the border again. Clicking the actual text will not work"  This seems like a strange feature given we already have a tool (Data Edit Tool) that does this single-click-to-edit thing.

Edit: Okay now I'm really confused. If I add a second "Data-Source" to the field, it no longer has this annoying function, and the field moves around fine as it did in previous versions.

Roll your mouse over an object and you'll see the mouse cursor change to a crossed arrow icon.  This is the case when the pointer is on the green border of the object.  Note that you don't need to click anything at this point.  You can then click and drag to move.  Positioning the mouse cursor into the centre of the object will switch it to edit mode if you then click.

Ian,

Thanks for the quick reply!

I understand I can move the field when clicking the border of the object. However, this is inconsistent with how any previous version has worked. It is inconsistent with how barcodes work, with how Rich Text objects work, and how Text Objects with multiple data sources work.

Also note that Arced Text does not do this "border move" functionality so easily. You actually have to click along the arc of the text without actually clicking text to move it, or double click it. Once selected, then the border will act as a move handle.

I realize you are not a developer - I'm just reporting that this functionality is very strange given we already have a Data Edit tool. And I would like to know if it's intentional, because it's certainly confusing. It's hard enough to talk customers through double-clicking into objects to edit properties as it is without having to tell them "Okay, you must only double click on the border of the text object to select it, not the middle".

Yes we have intentionally made changes to the way objects can be selected, moved, and edited.  We have attempted to make this easier, and more modern, particularly when working on a complex document design.  I suggest you try it for a while, see how you get on, and report back after a few days if you still feel the same way.
