Recently tethered my laptop to my phone and printed a label, now bartender is throwing #2401 error message up at every print and it seems to have registered my USB printer twice.

Now it thinks I've gone over my printer allowance! Is there an easy fix?

Darren, thanks for your post, we appreciate you reaching out!

Printer allowance is only triggered if BarTender 'senses' a new printer (your old printer can register as a new printer if the name, its location, or the port has changed); I'm not sure that this would have occurred by tethering your laptop. Either way, that additional printer should disappear after 7 days (there's no way around this, unfortunately).

I suggest that you attempt to restart your services - specifically, save and close all BarTender instances, then if you go to Windows Services, restart the BarTender Licensing Service first and then restart the BarTender System Service. Give it a few moments and retry printing.

If you're still having issues after this, start a new case with our Technical Support Team. I hope this can get you started!

Hi Al

That worked a treat! Thanks for the help.

Usually the laptop is on the company network, but our internet went down so it was tethered to my phone.

As the printer is just connected by USB, I presume that the laptops completely new IP address made Bartender think we had used a different printer?

Anyway I know not to worry and how to fix the issue if it ever happens again.

Darren, thanks for your reply, good to hear that helped!

If you look in the Administration Console, under the Printers Used in Last 7 Days, you should be able to determine how the printer may have been picked up as a secondary printer. Please see my example:

As you can see, the same printer is registered twice because the port changed. If you're using USB to connect your printers, perhaps you inserted into a second USB port, or there was an issue with the port in Windows?

If it does come back to trouble you, consider opening the case with Tech Support; they can get more in-depth into the issue if need be.

Thanks again!
