Barcode scans with an extra "_1"
Hello,
I am generating a GS1 Datamatrix code and when I print preview my code and scan I get the numbers correctly, as shown in the Human Readable section. However, when I email the .btw file to a different user, they print preview the code and it scans with a "_1" at the beginning and the end of the scanned number. I managed to get rid of the "_1" at the end of the code by removing the Data Terminator from the list created with the GS1 application identifier data source wizard. But now I am not sure why there's still a "_1" at the beginning of the code. Is there a reason why his software generates the code with a "_1" and mine does not? I am running BarTender Designer 2019 R9 and he is running 2022 professional - would that be the issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

There should be a function 1 character at the start of the a GS1 symbol but this is ^1 and not _1 so not sure what is going on there. BarTender will add this function1 automatically and it cannot be removed if you have selected to use a GS1 symbology.

The effect could also be caused by the scanner if a postfix and prefix is set. Because as far as I understand the printout is correct and without _1.

Thank you both for your input. I checked both situations and what baffles me is that when I generate the label on my machine I scan it with no _1. When he generates the code on his machine we both scan it with an _1 - same exact label. He's running BarTender Pro 2022, I am running 2019. The only thing I can think of is the different versions generating different codes - maybe some default settings are different, I'm not sure. Or the standard has been updated in 2022? But I couldn't find anything about that on GS1's website.

Not sure, but you may want to check they are using a scanner and not a verifier as that will actually display the function 1 differently.
This could be an issue with the printer itself or else the printer driver and so you could adjust BarTender to send the barcode through as a graphic rather than use the inbuilt barcode printing commands. To do this amend this option:

Pete,
That was it! I changed the setting to "Barcodes and human readable text controlled by BarTender" and it worked!
